1986 World History Of Science and Engineering
John
C. Mather of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, and George
F. Smoot University of California, Berkeley, CA work on measurements
from the COBE satellite. The work provided increased support for
the Big Bang scenario for the origin of the Universe, as this is the
only scenario that predicts the kind of cosmic microwave background
radiation measured by COBE. This work won the both the Nobel Prize
in Physics in 2006 |
